While waiting for summer sun to shine long enough for beach walkies, barbeques, and ice cream, it’s time to reflect on how we’ve helped animal welfare and conservation charities. In 2024 so far, we’ve donated £306,349.61 to help 133 charities in the UK and beyond!
Owing to the ongoing ‘cost of living’ crisis, we’re still seeing many requests from charities needing support to cover some day-to-day running costs. However, there were also other types of requests from charities (read on to find out more!) that we’re honoured to have been able to support.
Here’s just a snapshot of the positive difference we’ve made over the last few months, all thanks to the pets we proudly protect…
Sally's Duck Rescue
We donated £2,000 to Sally’s Duck Rescue, a charitable rescue and sanctuary based in Norfolk. The mission of Sally’s Duck Recue is to provide disabled, less able, and elderly ducks with freedom and happiness in a safe, forever home.
Our donation to the charity allowed them to build a special space for their disabled and elderly flock. Sally’s Duck Rescue already had a plan and list of materials drawn up for their new facility, so it was an honour to help! Their duck-friendly building includes covered areas, hidey holes, soft spaces to rest, and places for swimming – the perfect home for feathered residents of Sally’s Duck Rescue.
The Farm Animal Sanctuary
The Farm Animal Sanctuary in Worcestershire is home to over 600 animals who have been rescued as a result of cruelty, neglect, or abandonment. This charity’s mission is to work towards a world where animals are given the love, respect, and care they deserve. Unfortunately, The Farm Animal Sanctuary struggled when faced with relentless wet weather, which forced them to house their animals in barns for five months while most farmland was underwater.
After hearing their story, we wanted to support the core care costs of the sheep, horses, donkeys, geese, pigs, dogs, cats, poultry, and llamas living at The Farm Animal Sanctuary. Our donation of £2,400 helped to fund bedding and feed for two weeks.
The charity said: “On behalf of everyone at The Farm Animal Sanctuary, especially our 600 animals, I would like to thank you for this generous grant which will make an immediate difference to our operation.”
ACTAsia
A donation of £2,514 was given to ACTAsia – a charity working internationally to forge a compassionate world for animals, people, and the environment. Since 2009, ACTAsia has worked in partnership with Vets for Compassion in China, to improve the standards of companion animal care.
This charity needed support for their veterinary training programme, to empower them to reach more animals, and create meaningful change, as they train a new generation of vets. So, our donation went towards the costs of medicines, neutering surgeries, and rabies vaccinations – making sure more animals received the preventative treatments they needed!
Greyhound Rescue Wales
Following a request, we donated £4,559 to Greyhound Rescue Wales to build bespoke noise barriers designed to prevent barking sounds from impacting the charity’s neighbours. Their vision is to work towards a Wales without greyhound racing, where every greyhound and lurcher has a safe, caring, forever home; often resulting in rehabilitating greyhounds and lurchers.
Greyhound Rescue Wales focuses on rescuing and rehoming dogs who face complicated behavioural challenges – which can equal extra barking, especially when they stay in a kennel for the first time. Creating an effective sound barrier enables Greyhound Rescue Wales to invest more time into working with dogs in their care, instead of worrying about their neighbours understandably being upset by barking!
‘Tails’ of UK Wildlife Campaign
Small actions. Big impact. Wilder future.
Change doesn’t happen overnight, though we can’t make a positive difference if we don’t take that first step on the journey towards a nature-friendly future. Our ‘Tails’ of UK Wildlife campaign aims to empower you to rewrite the story of local wildlife – whether you have a balcony pot, vast garden plot, or anything in-between!
As part of our campaign, we shared a £100,000 donation between 10 incredible charities dedicated to protecting wildlife and restoring biodiversity.
A few of the wonderful wildlife and plant species our donations are helping include:
- Project Seagrass – marine ecosystems rely on seagrass meadows to filter pollution from water, weaken storm surges, and provide vital habitats for (often endangered) species.
- Shark Trust – special species who play an important role in biodiversity, like the basking shark (classed as ‘endangered’ on the IUCN Red List) need protecting before they become extinct.
- British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) – exploring sustainable methods of support for humble hedgehogs is essential to see UK populations thrive in future.
Inspiring you to act as an ally of UK wildlife and supporting charities working tirelessly to help protect our precious ecosystems are at the heart of our campaign. From saving species to nurturing nature, we’re proud to be wildly different – are you?
