2nd June 2023
In summer 2023, we celebrated how we can wholly and unapologetically be ourselves around our pets and how they’re so much more than just a pet, they’re family! The pure unwavering love they give us is unique and for many of us, this love gives us the confidence and assurance we need to be our true selves. They provide a love without judgment, a listening ear day and night, intrigued head tilts that never fail to raise a smile, and lots of affection whenever we need it!
When a pet enters our life, we are their everything. They depend on us, trusting us to give them all that they need and, in turn, we come to depend on them. Our chosen companions give us something to look forward to, and they give us a purpose.
Our pets don’t judge us for health, wealth, beauty, creed or colour. They don’t judge us for our flaws, or our mistakes, our decisions, our dreams. They love us unconditionally.
This is our thanks to them.
Summer of celebration
We took our celebration on the road and visited Dogstival and Pawfest, to hear all about the pets that provide us with more than just companionship. The happy, sad, smooth and the rough, we shared our tails and gave others the chance to tell theirs throughout the summer months.
While we were there, we took the opportunity to highlight some the wonderful charities who provide pets that are so often overlooked a second chance at life, giving them everything they need until they find their forever homes.
Charity champions
Oldies Club and Flori's Friends are just two amazing charities working to connect pets with people, providing a sense of purpose for both canines and humans alike! We made a £20,000 donation to both of these wonderful charities in September.
Oldies Club
The Oldies Club is a dog rescue, run solely by volunteers, that specialises in rescuing and rehoming older dogs. The charity doesn’t have kennels, with the dogs being cared for in a normal home environment through selfless foster carers dotted across the country.
The charity works tirelessly to be a voice for elderly dogs that need to be part of a loving family.
Flori’s Friends
Flori’s Friends provide a much-needed lifeline for abused and neglected animals across the UK and Europe, offering them hope as well as a happy, healthy and safe future. The charity works with both disabled dogs and those with behavioural problems, providing them with wheelchairs, therapy and full rehabilitation to allow them to enjoy their life just like any other dog.
This often means taking the ones that other charities might not consider and working with the dogs, no matter how long it takes, to give them a second chance to lead a happy and fulfilled life.
We’re proud to have supported Oldies Club and Flori’s Friends and the amazing work that they do, helping animals across the nation find owners that will love them for all that they are and all they still have to give.
We’d still love to hear all about them and how they’ve helped you be you. Afterall, sometimes we choose them, sometimes they choose us, but every day we chose each other!
Tell us about how important your chosen companion is to you on our Facebook or Twitter page.
