Product Review: Cat Mate Pet Fountain

The Cat Mate Pet Fountain is designed to give your cat or dog consistent access to fresh water when you cannot be there to keep checking, changing and refilling their water bowl. Normally I am not one for pet gadgets but I must say that this product is very well designed and excellent value for money, ranging from £20 – £30, depending upon which retailer you purchase it from.

With a lot of gadgets, especially those designed for pets, they can seem almost trivial and fun, rather than a practical invention that really does aid the pet and/or pet owner; the Cat Mate Pet Fountain is the latter. It has 3 tiers and a waterfall that enables more than one pet to drink at once and is dishwasher proof, making it easy to clean.

Having a capacity of 2 litres, the fountain uses a flow design and carbon filter to ensure that a) the water is consistently oxygenated and of a high purity and b) that there is enough of it to supply the dog or cat whilst you are out for the day. You will need to replace the filters between every 3 – 4 months to keep the water fresh and clean and it is also advisable to purchase a spare pump, just in case. At first my two cats weren’t sure what to make of the contraption, preferring to use their standard bowls, but after around 2 days they were eagerly drinking from the fountain and now love it. The water is nice and cool and I only have to change it every 2-3 days. A great buy.
